Our Letter

April 19, 2025

Prague, Czech Republic
To: Our dear future ministry partner
From: Míša and Zachary Harrod
Re: One-Third of One Percent

When Christians think of unreached nations and people groups, what do you think comes to mind? Africa, China, maybe parts of Latin America?

But did you know that only one-third of one-percent of the Czech Republic identifies as evangelical Christian? Like so many Eastern European nations that have been dominated by war, communism, and atheistic philosophy, the Czech Republic is in desperate need of spiritual revival.

Yet, in the midst of the painful history of Prague and the Czech Republic, there is hope.

Jesus is still working here, by His Spirit, to bring Czech people into a reconciled relationship with Him.

It is our privilege to be part of His work, and we invite you to be part of that work also.

Join us as we create small local church gatherings where discipleship flourishes, godly leaders are nurtured, and gospel-driven communities are planted and multiplied across the Czech Republic. These gatherings become spaces for transformation, connection, and the growth of communities that carry the message of Jesus forward.

“The fact that the Harrod’s are part of our community here in Prague is a blessing not just in a practical way, but also in a sort of mental and spiritual way. Their doors are always open to everyone. They are great leaders, mentors and friends, always ready to help and serve everyone. I am glad they get to be part of our community here in Prague and that they get to serve the people of Prague.”

Planting Micro Churches in Czech Republic For His Glory, with Your Help

As Charles Spurgeon once said, “The Christian should work as if all depended upon him, and pray as if it all depended upon God.”

Process

A Proven, 3 Step Process to Transform a Post-Christian Culture with the Gospel

Join us as we depend on God to see individuals in the Czech Republic come to saving faith in Christ and grow in their lives as apprentices of Jesus. Our desire is to equip others to plant new gospel-driven churches and see more outposts of the gospel in the Czech Republic.

1. Build

Our aim is to cultivate apprentices of Jesus who actively disciple others, and to build churches that actively plant other churches.

We achieve this through missional communities and microchurches while fully immersing ourselves in Czech culture.

When Paul gave his final instructions to Timothy, he wrote: “The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.” (2 Tim 2:2) This proves that we not only need to be passing on our faith and building others to become an apprentice of Jesus, but that we also need to train others to become apprentice-makers themselves.

Our first step in this process is to build new relationships and strengthen existing relationships within our sphere of influence here in Prague. Our goal is to become servant missionaries within this sphere – serving the practical needs of our neighbor so we can then plant seeds of the gospel.

When doing ministry in a post-christian culture, building trust is paramount.

2. Multiply

Our earnest prayer is for God to empower us in establishing a network of missional communities and micro-churches (which we call Tables) in Prague, where the transformative cycle of disciple-making continues throughout the country.

We are committed to forging genuine relationships that foster spiritual growth, accountability, and the building up of new leaders within the local church in Prague and beyond. When we integrate into Czech culture, we are blessed and become a blessing to others.

Once we have built genuine relationships, one of our strategies involves inviting others into a discovery Bible study. These are simple, small group meetings that seek to uncover the meaning of key passages of the Bible while challenging each other to live out what they have learned. From there, we will often fold the discovery bible study into a newly launched microchurch.

3. Seek

We desire to see lives transformed by Jesus through meeting their immediate needs.

We extend our services to Prague’s houseless, mothers, families, women who are in need of healing, creatives, and all those we encounter, recognizing that our own welfare is intertwined with the well-being of the community we serve.

Our goal is to embody Titus 3:14: “Our people must also learn to engage in good deeds to meet pressing needs, so that they will not be unfruitful.”

How We Make Apprentices “Around the Table”

Another method that is vital to the way we reach out to the Czech people is by inviting others to join us “around a table.” Tables are often where we share meals, enjoy fellowship, and experience a sense of relaxation and belonging. Our desire is to see a table in every neighborhood in Prague where Jesus is the host. The ultimate goal is to see a table set in every neighborhood of Prague, creating a network of interconnected communities that make a larger table, or church.

Our Direction

Here are the four components that make up our “Around the Table” structure.

Table Setter (Missionary)

An ordinary person who immerses themselves among a pocket of people, plants the gospel, and makes new disciples. These table setters invite people to Jesus’ table and build new communities. Microchurches or missional communities meet regularly to share meals, worship, and serve together, reflecting the early church’s intimate fellowship. These are extended spiritual families living in everyday gospel community, led by ordinary people who own the mission of Jesus in a network of relationships.

Little Table

Microchurches or missional communities that meet regularly to share meals, worship, and serve together, reflecting the early church’s intimate fellowship. These are extended spiritual families living in everyday gospel community, led by ordinary people who own the mission of Jesus in a network of relationships.

Big Table

Four to six microchurches within a geographic area or affinity group that have shared governing elders, mission, resources, and gatherings. Monthly or bi-monthly gatherings bring together all small tables for broader fellowship, teaching, and encouragement in order to strengthen the larger community.

Hub

An apostolic team utilizing a shared space to fuel and equip a network of missionaries and microchurches in a city or region. Quarterly gatherings in specific city areas unite multiple large tables, fostering a sense of larger community and shared mission, and encouraging collaboration and mutual support.

They Laughed When I Told Them We Were Going to Become Missionaries to the Czech Republic

You’re probably wondering: Who is this crazy family that wants to do ministry in Prague and the Czech Republic?! Well, we must believe in a big God, because we’re trusting him to perform life-changing miracles in a difficult place.

Zachary began ministering in the Czech Republic through Athletes in Action, the sports-ministry wing of Campus Crusade for Christ. What Zachary thought would be two years of work with Athletes in Action became nearly a decade, as he served the small community of American football (as a player, coach and mentor) as well as the students at the sports facility of The Charles University in Prague.

It was through his initial STINT (short-term international missions trip) work with AIA that he grew to love the Czech people. Through Zachary’s initial labors, he followed God’s leading to become involved in church-planting.

In the summer of 2013, everything changed when Zachary met Míša. Zachary prayed for Míša’s nation with such heartfelt conviction that it touched her deeply, and she knew she wanted to join him in his mission. Less than a year after they met, they were married, ready to serve together in Prague.

Míša’s passion lies in creating -whether its arts and craft with their boys, designing DIY projects, or dreaming of illustrating children’s books. She’s also deeply committed to building authentic relationships, helping women heal and see the image of God in their lives.

Zachary and Míša are joined by their two little blessings, Ollie and Artie, with a third one on the way in June 2025. Together, we call ourselves, “the Harrodovi,” which is really just “The Harrods” in Czech.

It is our prayer that God would reach the heart of Europe, Prague and the Czech Republic, and that in reaching the heart of Europe he would reach the whole of Europe and that Jesus would be made much of on this continent once again.

Make an Eternal Impact with the Harrodovi Family as we engage in life-on-life discipleship and plant churches in the Czech Republic.

Frequently Asked Questions

Aren’t they all Christians in Europe? Why do we need to send missionaries and money there? /Why do we need missionaries and more churches in Czech Republic?

We hear this more than you can imagine, but when you look at the numbers and compare them with the rest of the world, you realize that Europe is in far worse spiritual condition than we can imagine.

For example, a recent study (The European Spiritual Estimate), put it like this when comparing Europe to the rest of the world:

“Consider the most recent numbers from the World Christian Database:
• China, 8.5% Christian
• India, 6.2% Christian
• Africa, 13.3% Christian
• Latin America, 18.2% Christian

A recent study, the European Spiritual Estimate, indicates that while 72.7% of Europeans would be culturally affiliated with Christianity, only 4.2% of Europeans would claim to follow Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Europe, the veritable home of Christian faith for dozens of centuries, is now the least Christian geography in the world today.”

According to other studies (European Believers Report), “a rough continental estimate of believers” at an astonishingly low percentage of 1.1%!

So I ask you, “Is Europe still a Christian continent?” If you don’t believe me, check out those links and do the reading yourself. It a place that could be considered the least reached continent on the face of the planet. Europe is currently seeing the consequences of her decisions and forsaking her spiritual roots.

What are some of the initiatives you are working towards at your church in Prague?

See the above section on “Our direction.” Our goal is to build up a network of microchurches throughout the city of Prague, which will then be used to send out missionaries to reach the rest of the country.

Microchurches are small group gatherings where meals are shared, scripture is discussed, and fellowship occurs.

4-6 Microchurches within a geographic area or affinity group will then form a larger body of believers with a shared governing body, elders, and resources. These “big tables” will meet once a month or bi-monthly.

Several “big tables” will constitute an apostolic hub which can be viewed as a sending base for further church planting.

While structure is important and we believe microchurches are the best way to reach the people in the Czech Republic with the good news of what Jesus has done for them, our goal in providing the structure is to create the least amount of friction in the gospel going forward, and new members being invited into each type of gathering.

What are some ways you do life-on-life discipleship?

There are several ways that seem fairly unique, but are all tied together through the passions and interests of our family that the Lord has placed in our hearts. A major way we do this is through starting new discovery Bible studies, which was mentioned above. Beginning new discovery Bible studies is one strategy we often choose with the aim of launching a new microchurch within a geographic area or affinity group.

One way is by reaching creatives in the Prague area. This might include artists, musicians, graphic designers, videographers, and more. [Zach correct/add additional detail.]

Another way is by reaching out to the homeless in Prague. [Zach correct/add additional detail.]

Finally, we are actively looking to serve the needs of those impacted by sex-trafficking. [Zach correct/add additional detail.]
