Before We Leave for the Summer: A Prayer for Prague, Provision, and What Comes Next
In just over two weeks, our family will board a plane and spend much of the summer traveling across the United States. We’ll reconnect with churches, ministry partners, friends, and family while sharing stories of what Jesus is doing in Prague, Czech Republic.
As we prepare for the journey, I’ve found myself returning to prayer.
Not because prayer is a last resort, but because it reminds us of what is true. Every breath we take, every conversation we have, every mile we travel, every opportunity we receive, and every provision we need ultimately comes from God. Long before we book flights, pack suitcases, or make plans, He is already at work.
Prayer reminds us that we are not carrying this work He has called us to. He is.
And that is good news.
At the same time, living in Prague constantly reminds us why that truth matters.
Prague is often described as one of the most secular and spiritually skeptical cities in Europe. Many people here have little connection to church, and for some, faith feels distant, irrelevant, or tied to difficult experiences from the past. Yet beneath the skepticism, we continue to see something beautiful: people asking deeper questions about meaning, purpose, belonging, and hope.
Around dinner tables, over coffee, on playgrounds, and in everyday conversations, doors continue to open. Friendships are forming. Trust is growing. Seeds are being planted.
Because of that, we pray often.
Real transformation isn’t something we can manufacture. We cannot argue people into faith, program people into community, or force spiritual growth. Those are things only God can do.
So, as we prepare to leave Prague for a few months, I thought I’d share a prayer that has been on my heart. Whether you’ve prayed for us for years, recently joined our journey, or simply stumbled across this post, my hope is that these words encourage you to trust Jesus more deeply in whatever work He has placed before you.
A Prayer for the Road Ahead
Gratitude for the Journey
Father,
As we prepare to board a plane and spend the summer reconnecting with churches, friends, ministry partners, and family, we want to begin where we always should: with gratitude.
Thank You for the people You have placed around us. Thank You for every prayer, every encouraging email, every conversation, every meal shared around a table, and every act of generosity that has helped make this work possible. Most of all, we are grateful for those who have faithfully stood with us through the years. Their partnership has allowed us to remain here in Prague, raise our family here, and continue creating spaces where people can encounter Jesus.
As we travel, give us wisdom, endurance, and grace. Protect our family through long flights, changing schedules, and the unique challenges of life on the road with three children. At the same time, help us be fully present with the people You place in front of us and attentive to what You are already doing in their lives.
Lord, You know every need before we speak it.
You know this past year has been challenging. We have experienced the loss of long-time ministry partners, the impact of a weaker dollar, rising costs both in Europe and the United States, and the normal realities of transition and change. Yet through it all, You have remained faithful.
Praying for Provision
As we spend the summer sharing stories of what You are doing here in Prague, we ask You to provide for every need according to Your wisdom and timing. Encourage those who already stand with us. Refresh those who faithfully pray for us. Likewise, strengthen the churches that have sent and supported us.
Provide the practical things as well. Open doors for affordable housing as we travel, generous hosts who might welcome our family, and opportunities that help stretch the resources You have entrusted to us. Give us wisdom as we make decisions and help us be good stewards of every dollar so that more energy and resources can be invested in the work You have called us to.
And if You would be pleased to do so, raise up new partners who will join us in seeing more lives transformed by Jesus here in Prague. Bring the right people at the right time. Open the right doors. Guide the right conversations.
Praying for Open Hearts in Prague
Continue opening hearts. Continue creating opportunities for deeper conversations. Continue drawing people toward Yourself through friendships, shared meals, hospitality, Scripture, and simple acts of faithfulness.
We pray for the people gathering around tables across the city, many of whom would never walk into a church building, yet are beginning to ask deeper questions about life, purpose, truth, and Jesus.
Praying for New Tables and Apprentices
We pray for the Discovery Bible Studies we long to see started. Beyond that, we pray for the tables that have not yet formed. We also lift up the apprentices we are investing in and those we have not yet met.
Likewise, we pray for friends who are spiritually curious, for those who are skeptical, and for those who have heard the Gospel many times but have not yet said yes to Jesus.
Praying for More Laborers
We pray for more laborers.
Raise up men and women who will help set tables across this city. Raise up people of peace. Raise up apprentices who become apprentice-makers. Furthermore, raise up leaders who love Jesus, love others, and will help carry this vision forward.
And for all of us, remind us that this work ultimately belongs to You.
You are the One building Your Kingdom.
You are the One changing hearts.
You are the One who provides.
As we prepare to travel, help us walk forward with open hands, trusting You for what only You can do.
May more tables be set.
May more friendships be formed.
May more prayers be answered.
And may Jesus become the Host of more hearts throughout Prague and beyond.
Amen.
