Back to School, Back to Prayer: Asking Jesus to Fill the Halls

Back to School, Back to Prayer: Asking Jesus to Fill the Halls

by | Uncategorized | 0 comments

It’s the first day of school here in Czech 🇨🇿 — and before the halls filled with students, we wanted to fill them with prayer. Like many parents, we’re thrilled school is back in session, but we also long for Jesus’ presence to fill the year ahead.

This past Saturday, Oliver, Artur, and I went to their school to pray. We prayed for the school year, for teachers and staff, for their classmates and friends, and for God’s presence to fill every corner. We even laid hands on the doors, asking Jesus to bless every person who will walk through them — and that revival in Prague might even begin in a place like this.

Some of you asked if you could see what and how we prayed. So here it is — a simple prayer walk liturgy and a short morning rhyme we’ve been praying with the boys. Lord-willing, Jesus will use it in your kids’ lives and their schools too.

We were reminded of Tyler Staton’s story in Praying Like Monks, Living Like Fools. As a middle schooler, Tyler began praying and preaching before class in the dim hallways of his school. He recalls:

“By the end of that school year, approximately one-third of my eighth-grade class had come into relationship with Jesus in the darkness of the early morning, with all the atmosphere of hospital lighting, through the potentially heretical sermons of a thirteen-year-old skeptic.”

Tyler also gives this vision:

“It’s always the common places that turn out to be holy… It only takes a moment to turn an everyday place into holy ground.”

That’s our prayer too: that ordinary schools, classrooms, and playgrounds in Prague (and beyond) would become holy ground through prayer.

A Simple Prayer Walk Guide for Schools

1. Start – Thank Jesus
“Jesus, thank You for this school, our teachers, and our friends. Thank You that You love us and are with us here.”

2. Pray for Peace
“Jesus, cover this school with Your peace. Let classrooms be calm, playgrounds be safe, and kids feel Your love.”

3. Pray for Students
“Bless every student with good friends.”
“Help kids who are lonely feel seen and loved.”
“Give courage to kids to do what is right, even if it’s hard.”

4. Pray for Teachers & Staff
“Give teachers patience, strength, and joy.”
“Bless the helpers — janitors, lunch workers, office staff. Thank You for them!”

5. Pray for Safety
“Jesus, be a shield around this school. Protect it from harm. Keep kids safe when they play and learn.”

6. Pray for Themselves
“Help us be kind, even when it’s not easy.”
“Show us how to be good friends like You are to us.”
“Walk with us every day we come here.”

7. Finish – Blessing Together
(Repeat line by line)
“Jesus, we give this school to You.”
“Fill it with Your love.”
“Bless our friends, our teachers, and us.”
“We love You. Amen.”

A Morning Prayer Rhyme for Kids

Jesus, bless my school today,
Keep us safe in every way.

Give my friends good hearts to share,
Show each kid Your loving care.

Help my teachers teach with joy,
Guide each girl and guide each boy.

Help me shine Your light so bright,
Speak Your love and do what’s right.

Give me courage, make me brave,
To show Your kindness every day.

Walk with me the whole day through,
I’m never alone — I walk with You.

Neighboring Well

Parents, pray with your kids. Kids, pray for your school. It’s one of the simplest and most powerful ways to “neighbor well” and, as John 1 says, to “move into the neighborhood.”

When we do this, we’re asking Jesus to fill the halls — with His peace, His presence, and His love.

We’d love to hear — how are you praying for your kids, their school, or the neighborhood around you? Share your stories with us, and let’s encourage one another.
